Meet the Mentor Behind Redmond Science Academy
Dr. Aruna Turaga, holds a PhD in Analytical Chemistry from the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru. She worked in the pharmaceutical industry for a brief period then started tutoring students of all ages—as well as adults—in chemistry, physics, biology and math for many years before transitioning to a successful career in the corporate world. After managing an analytical laboratory in Seattle for six years, she chose to return to her greatest passion: teaching.
There is nothing more rewarding for her than seeing students light up with excitement about science or take pride in their accomplishments, whether it’s mastering a tough concept or excelling in a national competition.
Over the past two decades, Dr.Turaga has taught hundreds of students and guided many into top-tier colleges and scientific careers. She founded the Science Olympiad and National Science Bowl programs at Redmond Middle School, later helped launch similar teams at Evergreen Middle School, and now supports students across Redmond, Bellevue, Sammamish, Issaquah, and Bothell. She also works closely with high school and college students, helping them deepen their knowledge and prepare for advanced competitions and exams through customized practice materials and mentoring.
In addition to education, Dr. Turaga remains deeply committed to community service. She regularly volunteers at Hopelink Food Bank, has fostered nearly 100 rescue animals, and was a host for homeless youth through the YMCA Host Homes program. These experiences shape not only how she teaches but also how she connects with every student—as whole individuals with unlimited potential.
